For Whom?

Taking into consideration your plans of long-term uses and your schedule presently, also consider the various sizes and shapes of Jacuzzi designs. If you need something special, many manufacturers will permit you a customized design. For example, entertaining many guests requires tubs that provide ample amount in seating choices.

When you desire rest and relaxation after dinner and dancing, perhaps a two-seater Jacuzzi is exactly what you need. Alternately, specialized tubs with specific options and functions for adjusting water action and heat levels are successful as Jacuzzis for disabled and elderly hydrotherapy programs.

What kinds of Details are best for You?

Now that you understand the purpose behind you purchase, check for the details to go along with it. A Jacuzzi can be a fully customizable affair. Is a simple water heater enough, and will you be fine with the whirlpool action adjustable to only high or low? How many bubble jets do you want, and in what parts of the tub? Remember that the placing of a bubble jet can dramatically affect the entire Jacuzzi experience. You do not want it so close to the carved seats that you’ll be sitting directly over it, while you don’t want it too far and few in between that you might as well start using your arms to circulate the water. Another important consideration is the material.

The primary materials available today by various manufacturers include plastic, ceramic and wood for the tub. Plastic is waterproof and dependable. Yet, wood Jacuzzis add style and elegance to your surroundings. Check to be sure that wood tubs are pretreated to hold up under water and heat.

Safety First

In order to eliminate bacteria and algae from your tub, you will need to treat the water. There are various chemicals available to help you. Your manufacturer is happy to offer you advice concerning their products. Other safety items to consider are covers to keep kids and pets out, slip-resistant floors and side handlebars.

If you keep these things in mind while shopping for Jacuzzis you will be able to find one that satisfies all your needs.

With more families opting for vacationing at home during these tough economic times you may want to add a little fun to your backyard oasis to give the yard a lift and a touch of humor and a more relaxed feel. Hey guys look at me....

Here are a few ideas that will take little time or money but will give your home a fresh look.

Backyard Relaxation Center.

Add a hammock, patio table with umbrella or a picnic table to create a relaxing place to kick back to you backyard area or patio. These items can all be bought at garden sales or be as simple as painting your older picnic table or purchasing a new colorful patio umbrella.

If you want to have the new trendy look for garden design add yellows and white in furniture and kitchenware and fiery colors in your garden plants and flowers. It’s amazing what a new tablecloth and patio dishes will add to the décor.

Set up a music center and a place to picnic with family and friends and your relaxation center will become a place to escape from work and stress.

Evening lighting will add an air of adventure and mystery to summer evenings. Tiki lights, solar lighting, lanterns or candles scattered about the backyard will add more hours to use your backyard paradise.

Create a play area for the children with a sandbox and large toy box for the patio or porch. Include chalk for a sidewalk or the patio for playing hopscotch or making a mural. These few simple items will keep your smaller children busy for hours.

Movie posters behind plexi-glass and old 45 records hanging from a patio roof will capture the interest of teens.

Theme gardens

Theme gardens can be changed weekly if you want and will create a fresh look and feel to your living area.

Theme gardens can be centered around color, hobbies, time periods or collectibles.

Assemble a container garden of plants and garden art and mix in knick-knacks that are favorites of family members. If someone collects elephants mix them in among the planters. Kites could be hung on a fence for more color and an airplane mobile could be made for the aviation fan.

Decorate you patio with indoor/outdoor plants with a tropical feel. These plants can be brought in during the winter. And if you place the plants in a way that wander from indoor to outdoors you will create a flow that will mesh the two area together and make small spaces look larger.  This is a great idea for apartments, small patios and balconies.

Garden Art from found or foraged items

Old dressers used for a picnic table, mirrors hung outdoors, interesting window boxes frown teacups and saucers are only a few ideas for garden art pieces that will act as a focal point in the backyard.

A birdbath made from kitchen utensils will add interest to a garden path. So will wind chimes made from silverware hanging from trees.

I have seen window boxes that are filled with teacups and saucers instead of plants. I created a whimsical water fountain that was made from teapots of different sizes and colors, and my fence, displays a collection of decorative birdhouses of all colors.

The main purpose of the backyard is to enjoy time with friends and family and to escape from work and stress. By adding a few new items and colors you can quickly change your backyard into an oasis.

There is beauty and relaxation to a backyard in the evening. And when you add lighting either to a patio area or a garden area the landscaping comes alive.  Cloudy moonlit night over Waikiki

In the recent years solar lighting is becoming very popular. One reason for its popularity is that after the initial costs for the lighting there are no additional costs.

Solar lighting works by using the sun’s energy and even on overcast days the lights will pick up enough energy to add a beautiful glow to your backyard oasis.

And the popularity of the solar lights has encouraged companies to create lighting for every type of garden and landscape décor.

If you are shopping for solar lighting for around swimming pools, ponds or any other water source, individual solar lights work the best to emphasis the landscape area.

Lighting gardens, decks, walkways, patios or decks are also possible with solar lighting. Depending on the landscape style and design you may want to go with table lamps, hanging lamps, ground lighting or a soft spotlight for a focal emphasis.

The new solar lighting possibilities are limitless. And by working with your backyard landscape design you can create a unique and inviting look.

Many homeowners are lighting their driveways, which makes certain driveways, like mine, easier to navigate in the evenings and adds a welcoming look to your home. Fences also look wonderful with solar lighting.

And one of the biggest advantages to solar lighting is that there are less or no wiring that has to be hidden or buried around your yard. The homeowner has to remember with electrical lighting to use extra care while mowing and to check the wire often to look for wear and tear or if its properly buried so that no one will trip on the cords.

Solar lighting will light up that dark corner in your yard and will illuminate a tree or fountain, adding atmosphere to your backyard oasis.

When you are choosing solar lighting for your backyard, shop around and look at all the solar lighting available. You will also want to keep in mind the color of light that the solar light emits. Lighting is available with a white glow, amber glow, or low soft lighting.  A few lights even flash or are motion activated and work well for security purposes.

And last but not least, your backyard areas are different and may require several different styles of lighting to accent the yard to its best potential. But your lighting still needs to relate from one area to the other. This is often achieved with matching solar designs or color on the lights.

How to Solar Guide has great information on solar lighting and other solar backyard needs. I am particularly impressed with the solar fountains they have reviewed on their site.

Vertical gardening is a must for the apartment renter or city dweller. But I have found even in the country it’s a practical way to grow crops. Trellis Climber

Vertical growing takes less space, is easier to maintain and it uses less water. I have also found I have less insect problems and plant disease.

These you tube videos will give you an idea of what you can grow using vertical growing methods.

For heavier crops I use pantyhose to tie the plant to the vertical supports. I feel it easier on the plant to have a soft tie. And if the fruit I am growing is heavy I make a pantyhose sling for the fruit to keep it safely on the plant and vine. Watermelon and gourds are crops I make a sling for.

When you tie a vine to the trellis be gentle with the vine, they can break.

One other thing I like about vertical gardening is that it is pretty. The vines and leaves have a lush feeling and will add depth to your living area. They can also add privacy. And if you add vining flowers to your vegetables you have planted you add more color.

Scarlet runner beans are edible and have a beautiful flower. They are one of my favorite flowering vines. Hyacinth beans vines and vining nasturtiums are also found in my gardens. And nasturtiums are also an edible flower.

Hanging baskets and small garden art will add to your vertical gardens and create an inviting multi-layered look to your garden and garden oasis area.

Vertical gardens add to your garden space and create a unique look. They make the most out of small space garden areas and are great for small backyard design, patios and balcony gardens.

Garden studios are becoming popular in backyards, particularly small backyard design areas. By designing a garden studio you can create a small getaway that is available anytime. untitled HDR.

It could be a more relaxed working area or and area that helps with creativity.

The idea of a garden office or garden studio is perfect for people who enjoy the outdoors or gardening. It is also convenient for people who are self-employed and work at home. Your work area becomes a very relaxing haven.

If you have a small backyard or no backyard you will need to plan carefully to make the best use out of every available inch of space. You may even want to consider hiring a professional designer to help out.

The first and most important step is analyzing your available space. Will your area be indoors or out? Natural lighting and a flow with the outdoors are necessary. You will also need to check on any building permits and security issues for your new design.

The Outdoor Garden Studio or Garden Office

Heating, cooling and security for a separate building are main concerns with an outdoor garden studio or office. Also selecting the building location and size in relation to backyard space and landscape design are keys to success.

If your building needs to be small to fit into available space you can actually add to the feel of the room by adding a mini patio, flagstone or creating a garden around the building.  This extends the indoor space outside in a flowing feel. Add a small tabletop fountain for relaxation and you have created a feeling out an outdoor room or secret garden.

You can create the building yourself, hire a builder or buy a small building at most garden centers.

Indoor Garden Studio or Garden Office

Porches, sunrooms, balconies and a room with many windows will make a wonderful garden office. You may also decide to add a small extension onto your home. Some of the most inviting garden rooms I have seen are balconies that have been enclosed but the design from the balcony moves into the attached room creating a larger feeling to the entire space.

Sunrooms and porches are also very successful when re-created into garden studios. By adding plants, container gardens, mini ponds or fountains you bring the feel of the outdoors indoors. The use of vertical garden design and garden trellises will make better use of limited space and create a lush garden feeling. Aus Home Beautiful June 08.jpg

And depending on your climate you may need to add insulation to create a more climate friendly atmosphere during the hot summer months or cooler winter season.

By creating a Garden studio or Garden office you can make an environment to work in that offers the comfort and relaxation of being outdoors.
