First and foremost it’s important to decide what you want in your backyard garden design. What will be the function of the yard and what style do you want or is already on your property? Do you want to include an area for entertaining or a workshop? Is there to be an area for children to play, swimming pool or a water garden? Or maybe you would like to design an outdoor room.

When first starting your landscape design, focus on the area where you spend most of your time. By creating this area first you will enjoy the yard while other work is being done at a later time.

The style of your home and your lifestyle are starting points for your landscape design. Most house styles fall in contemporary, formal, informal, formal/informal, English garden or cottage garden, oriental or woodland.
