Denise, this is great information. I am going to try to build my own wall fountain over the weekend. I can see how the ideas are limitless depending on the pots, stone etc you choose. Thank you for sharing.

Mosquitos are drawn to stagnant water and dirty water. If you add a small water fountain or waterfall to you water area your chances of mosquito's are cut down dramatically. Also add a few water plants. They help the water oxidate and that keeps the water cleaner so insects are not as drawn to it. Also if you water area is big enough fish will help, plus they are fun to watch.

Water does a relaxing feeling to a yard, particularly in the evening. You could try a small barrel pond to see if you had a problem and if not, go to a bigger pond or waterfall setup.

I live by a large creek and a swamp so I know all about mosquitoes and I actually have them under control.... for the moment ;)

A few people will use a drop of liquid dish soap to a pond. Just enough to break the waters surface. I have never done this but a friend of mine does and says it works. I also hear a drop of olive oil will work. Again, I don't know - I haven't tried it. Denise

I love the sound of a water fall or fountain. It is quite relaxing for my mind which seems to relax my body as well.

I have thought about adding a water feature to our backyard but I am a little afraid that it might increase the mosquito population and we already have way too many.

Is there anything that can be added to the water that wouldn't harm other wild life?
