Spring rolls around and its time to dip into the pocket book and start getting ready for the summer. There’s planting to be done, and repairs to do. Perhaps there’s a landscaping project on the horizon. sissinghurst shed, autumn

Once the plans are in place and the items are bought its time to get out the tools. Now this is where the real challenge begins. Where did you put them last fall? Probably find some in the basement and then there’s that corner of the garage that has some of the bigger ones. Oh yes don’t forget about the spare room probably tucked some away in there too.

This has all got to tell you something. As if you really need, a garden shed. It’s going to save you time and money in the long run. It’s going to save you time because all of your outdoor tools and equipment can be stored in one place. That means when you are in need of something you can just go and get it because you know where it is. When your garden and outdoor implements are scattered all over the place, it takes a lot of time just remembering where they are and then the search is on.

Money wise they save you a great deal. One of your agreements against the garden shed investment may be you just don’t want to put out that kind of money after all you’ve managed so far. hooks and pulleys

The longer you live in a house the more you accumulate. You may have managed up until now but the time is coming sooner or later you just won’t have enough storage space.

Yes, it’s going to cost you money to buy your garden shed. Think of it this way though how much has you spent on soil weeding products and fertilizer. You use a portion of them then one of two things happen. You let them sit outside where they get destroyed by the elements, or secondly you end up throwing them out because there is no place to put them.

Most of the lawn and garden equipment that you have probably purchased has not been cheap either. When it’s not stored properly, it can become damaged or even ruined. The other thing to consider is some of the equipment is not safe to be laying around especially where there are young children.

Finally, a garden shed really does add to the ambience of the landscaping. It makes it look neat and just shows that someone really cares about their outdoors. If you aren’t sure, what style to get just look around your neighborhood and you will get a good idea. You need to base your choice according to your needs.

If you don’t own a lot of garden supplies and equipment then one of the smaller ones will work nicely. Don’t forget though that those winter items can be conveniently stored here as well so plan your required space accordingly. Once you have got past the fact that you had to lay some money out for your shed you are going to be most glad that you did.

Garden studios are becoming popular in backyards, particularly small backyard design areas. By designing a garden studio you can create a small getaway that is available anytime. untitled HDR.

It could be a more relaxed working area or and area that helps with creativity.

The idea of a garden office or garden studio is perfect for people who enjoy the outdoors or gardening. It is also convenient for people who are self-employed and work at home. Your work area becomes a very relaxing haven.

If you have a small backyard or no backyard you will need to plan carefully to make the best use out of every available inch of space. You may even want to consider hiring a professional designer to help out.

The first and most important step is analyzing your available space. Will your area be indoors or out? Natural lighting and a flow with the outdoors are necessary. You will also need to check on any building permits and security issues for your new design.

The Outdoor Garden Studio or Garden Office

Heating, cooling and security for a separate building are main concerns with an outdoor garden studio or office. Also selecting the building location and size in relation to backyard space and landscape design are keys to success.

If your building needs to be small to fit into available space you can actually add to the feel of the room by adding a mini patio, flagstone or creating a garden around the building.  This extends the indoor space outside in a flowing feel. Add a small tabletop fountain for relaxation and you have created a feeling out an outdoor room or secret garden.

You can create the building yourself, hire a builder or buy a small building at most garden centers.

Indoor Garden Studio or Garden Office

Porches, sunrooms, balconies and a room with many windows will make a wonderful garden office. You may also decide to add a small extension onto your home. Some of the most inviting garden rooms I have seen are balconies that have been enclosed but the design from the balcony moves into the attached room creating a larger feeling to the entire space.

Sunrooms and porches are also very successful when re-created into garden studios. By adding plants, container gardens, mini ponds or fountains you bring the feel of the outdoors indoors. The use of vertical garden design and garden trellises will make better use of limited space and create a lush garden feeling. Aus Home Beautiful June 08.jpg

And depending on your climate you may need to add insulation to create a more climate friendly atmosphere during the hot summer months or cooler winter season.

By creating a Garden studio or Garden office you can make an environment to work in that offers the comfort and relaxation of being outdoors.

More and more families are considering investing in a swimming pool today. Less expensive than a vacation for the whole family, a home swimming pool is starting to look like a worthwhile investment for many people. With a wide variety of swimming pool options out there, many people can find a way to fit at least a very basic swimming pool into their budget. Safety first

Public pools are popular because they are usually quite large, have added on items like sliding boards and wading pools, and seem to cost less than installing your own pool. The cost of paying for public pools can become considerable over a couple of seasons though. Still, public pools can be a nice choice for people with limited space or other considerations that prevent them from putting in their own pool.

For private ownership, above ground swimming pools are generally much less expensive than the in ground alternative. Even among above ground pools there can be a great variation in cost. Inflatable above ground swimming pools are usually the least expensive option. These are usually designed to be set up on a level area by a few people in one days time.

The above ground pools that get “winterized” are a popular option today. They are large enough to be enjoyed by several people but do not carry the very high price tag of an in ground swimming pool.

Expenses related to the installation of an above ground pool can add up quickly. Pools costs include the pool itself, preparing the poolscape area, running electricity to the pool area, any decking that may be added on, and of course, labor. If you are going for an installation of all new materials, this could end up costing several thousand dollars.

Getting an in ground pool is a serious commitment of money for a homeowner and should be looked at as an investment. Having an in ground pool is definitely a selling point. Whether you gain from this investment in the long term will depend on the pool itself and the prevailing economic factors when you decide to sell your home.

If you just want an in ground pool or you have no other pool options available where you live, just accept that it is going to be expensive and hope that you get your value back. Before installing the pool, get all of your documentation handled. All permits and such should be obtained before you ever break ground on the project.

No matter what swimming pool option you may choose, get all of your costs added up before ever making your purchase. Your new pool shouldn’t cost so much that it destroys your budget. Shop wisely and take care of the pool you decide to purchase. Today’s pools can last for several years and serve as a great addition to your home and property.

Today more and more people are discovering the great joy of keeping a Koi pond and are learning as much as they can about these fascinating fish. Thought to be one of the most beautiful types of fish of all, Koi can be found in a wide variety of interesting colors, patterns, and markings, which is why they appeal to so many people all over the world. big fish

Keeping and taking care of Koi is something that should be taken seriously. The fish, much like any other living thing, requires a certain amount of care as well as time and money in order to be as healthy as possible. Unfortunately, many first time Koi owners fail to have a successful pond full of healthy fish as they underestimate what is needed to properly care for them. But don’t be discouraged as the more you learn about the subject the greater your chances are of having a thriving Koi pond of your own.

It is important for you to learn all you can BEFORE you begin obtaining the things you need for Koi keeping. This way, you will not slip up and have to replace anything that you have already done or bought. Planning ahead will not only save your money, but it will potentially save your sanity as well.

Instead of merely relying on the knowledge of others, take the time to do the research yourself about Koi and what’s needed for their habitat. Vendors and manufacturers of ponds and their accessories may have limited knowledge and may even be a bit biased toward their own products. Also, few of them will be accessible when you’re back at home with your new pond and Koi and questions or problems arise.

Building Your Koi Habitat

Before ever buying Koi, you must create a proper habitat for them. This is where information from your pond builder and supplier will come in handy. However, you should not rely on the opinions of just one person. It may be a god idea to do research on your own, before you go to purchase the materials needed for you pond. Because of it’s popularity, an unlimited supply of resources can be found on the topic of Koi keeping. Visit your local library, fishery center, or research online. There are quite a few things needed to sustain a habitable pond.

When it comes to pond size, bigger is always better. Koi have a habit of growing rather fast, so you have to consider pond size at the same time you are considering how many Koi you are going to put it in.

The filtration system is another extremely important aspect of keeping a Koi pond with two separate types to learn about, biological or mechanical. Mechanical filtration systems will remove large pieces of solid waste such as insects, tree branches, or dead algae while the biological filtration causes an increase in nitrogen helping to dissolve waste within the water. Without a biological filtration system the water will quickly become inhabitable for the fish as waste will turn to ammonia, which is deadly to Koi within just a few short days.

In addition to all of the things you’ll need to do in order to keep your Koi happy and healthy in their home you will also want to consider adding some landscaping touches to make the area even more visually appealing. Choose from a wide array of shrubs, trees, flowers, and plants for adding both color and interest to your Koi pond.

Boxed gardens have been catching on in many backyard gardens, particularly those with small backyard design issues.

Boxed gardens are neat, clean and easy to handle.  Depending on where you placer them and how wide they are will depend if you can easily walk around them or reach across them. Pink Flower

You can have one or two box gardens and place them side-by-side or scatter them around the backyard or even place them on the patio or a balcony. Wherever you place them, just remember to have an easy access to water and adequate sunshine.

A boxed garden is really a frame. To make one, all you have to do is look around your yard, chose a location with six to eight hours of sunlight, prepare the soil, and then frame the space with standard 2-by-4 sections of wood board. I like to make my boxes gardens two to three foot wide.  Any wider and I have trouble reaching the center for garden maintenance.  The length depends on my gardening needs. Nail the corners together for support.

Many gardeners using the boxed gardens use a four foot by four foot size. It’s the size that most square foot gardens use and this method is perfect for square foot gardening

The advantages of these boxed gardens are that they are fast and easy to set up and can be sued in areas that have poor soil. Just add compost and soil or use a lasagna gardening method for building soil.

You can also build a section of the garden one at a time when you need it instead of rushing to put a garden in a few days.

The boxed garden method of gardening is great for small backyard designs, patios and balcony gardens. It is so versatile that it can fit any garden space or family style
